Goodbye to Plastic Bags!

VreciceWith support from the associations Compost Center, Eko Kvarner, Eco Initiative, PCAP International, Blue World, Consumer, Sun, Green Action, Green Istria, Green Osijek, and others, we launched a petition for the legal ban on plastic bags. Signing of the petition started at the ZeGeVege Festival.


ZeGeVege Festival

ZgvgOn September 20 on Ban Jelacic Square in Zagreb ZeGeVege – 1st Festival of Sustainable Living was held. We want to take this opportunity once more to thank all participants of the festival, singers, dancing groups, performers, speakers, and exhibitors, and those who helped us with their donations and sponsorships to successfully realize the first ZeGeVege Festival. We also thank our members, volunteers and activists who took part in its organization, and numerous visitors who came to the Zagreb main square. Project and Band Aid ‘I Love Animals’

Band aidOn September 29 started the recording for the first Croatian animal band aid ‘I Love Animals.’ The lyrics and music for the song ‘Nema isprike (No Excuse)’ was written by Lea Dekleva, while the following famous Croatian performers joined this project: Oliver Dragojevic, Toni Cetinski, Massimo Savic, Tedi Spalato, Jelena Radan, Maja Vucic, Tina Vukov, Lea Dekleva, Ines Bojanic, Leona Paraminski, Marko Tolja, Iva Bagic, and Popper. The video will be produced and directed by Vanja Vascarac. Photographer is Filip Cargonja. In the creative and media sector a voluntary contribution was given by the TBWA agency Zagreb, the media agency PHD, and the marketing company b.i.p..


Animal Friends Days

For the seventh year in a row we organized the Animal Friends Days, marking them with the special attention to the World Vegetarian Day, World Farm Animals Day, and World Animal Day. This year too we treated our fellow townsmen with a vegan breakfast and lunch, we organized for them a street video projection and invited them to the theater play Timbuktu which draws attention to the homeless of the human and dog kind and also encourages giving abandoned animals a home. We handed out several thousands leaflets which we published in collaboration with FARM – Farm Animal Rights Movement.


Tamara Ecclestone Against Fur

In collaboration with PETA Europe and Cro A Porter we put up a new provocative ads with TV presenter and Formula One heiress Tamara Ecclestone in Varazdin and Zagreb. The Croatian promotion of the ad ‘Going Fur-Free Is the Winning Formula’ took place on the Cro A Porter fashion show on October 8 on the Zagreb Fair. This action was supported by Cro A Porter, Europlakat, Arto, and Vectordesign.


Croatian Student Winner of the European Design Against Fur Competition

Tomislav Stancic, a student of The Polytechnic of Zagreb, is the winner of the 2008 European & International region of the Design Against Fur student design competition with a conscience. Student Marin Mimica helped Tomislav Stancic in creating the winning artwork. 11 students were awarded a Special Commendation from the judges and a further 13 students received Commendations. The top three European & International winning entries will now go forward to be judged, alongside the winners from the other Design Against Fur regions for the Grand Prize. The same artworks will also be submitted for the People’s Choice Award, an online public vote throughout November at www.designagainstfur.com.

From October 13-17 we organize an exhibition of all 40 artworks from Croatia in the Student Center in Zagreb, where awarding of Commendations and Certificates also took place.


Various

– Opatija, Klanjec, Djurdjevac, and Donji Miholjac are new towns to support the campaign for obligatory microchipping of all dogs. The number of towns which supported this initiative thus increased to 73.

– On October 16 at 12 noon on Korzo in Rijeka we mark the World Anti-McDonald’s Day, while the protest against live animal transport will take place on October 25 in Zagreb by the Croatian National Theater. Give your support to us by joining!

– On October 18 at 6 P.M. in our office in Gajeva 47 we organize the ‘AktiVeg’ workshop. If you are in Zagreb that day, you are most welcome to visit us.
