Animalist no. 212

„Only after I became active in women’s issues did I realize that my veganism was related to those very issues. Dairy and eggs don’t just come from cows and chickens, they come from female cows and female chickens. We’re exploiting female bodies and abusing the magic of female animals to create eggs and milk.” – Natalie Portman

Estonia bans breeding animals for fur!

The Estonian Parliament has voted to ban the breeding of animals for fur. In Croatia, fur farming has been banned for a long time now. This action puts Estonia on the growing list of countries that have decided to stop this brutal and unnecessary industry forever. Fur farms are extremely polluting and relentlessly waste resources. Animals are killed by breaking their necks, electrocuting them, or even skinning them alive. We welcome this victory and urge everyone not to buy or wear clothing and footwear mad from animal skin and fur.

The path of horror of future steaks

We marked the Ban Live Exports International Awareness Day. We have warned that Croatia is also involved in the practice of this disgusting cruelty to animals. Scenes of painful boarding have been documented on several occasions in the port of Raša. Upon arrival, the animals are already hungry, thirsty and completely exhausted, and after a long truck journey, they are still facing several days of agony at the sea. A vegan diet is the most effective way to save animals from the agony of transportation, learn more at www.whyveg.com/hr.

VegeFair – a place of good decisions

The 10th VegeFair, as a one-day announcement of the largest vegan festival in the region – ZeGeVege Festival, was held this year at the main Zagreb square on June 15th 2021. At the VegeFair you could try delicious pancakes, wraps, burgers and other dishes, drink the best coffee made with vegetable milk, as well as cool yourself down with fruit drinks and vegan ice cream. At our stand, you could get information about a compassionate lifestyle and sustainable diet and get recipes, recommendations and tips on what not to miss at this year’s jubilee VegeFair. You can see the photo gallery here.

Death by injecting Botox into the abdomen

As a member of the European Coalition to End Animal Experiments (ECEAE), we have joined animal rights organizations across Europe to mark Action Week from June 21st to 26th in protest of the extremely cruel Botox testing on animals. It is unacceptable that sentient animals continue to be subjected to torturous death despite the availability of tests for which no animals have to be used.

Israel has banned fur sale

Israel became the first country in the world to ban fur sale! This historic decision is the result of many years of efforts by the international coalition and local organizations, which shows that the world is unstoppably moving towards ending the horrific torture and killing of animals for their fur.

CMRS: WE ARE ultimately for Croatia without chained dogs

The For Croatia without fur campaign was also supported by the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service: “We strongly support this and any initiative in the terms of protecting animal dignity, the right to a healthy and appropriate lifestyle and the necessary legal amendments appropriate to a civilized and benevolent democratic society.” Please write to the government and the competent ministry, all instructions can be found at www.zabranimolanac.net.

The vaccine will not help them

In this pandemic time and isolation, a vaccine issupposed to get us out of what we consider “captivity.” But for animals in zoos, the vaccine won’t help them get out of it, so this is a unique opportunity to try to put ourselves in their position. For this reason, we launched the “Skip the Zoo” campaign in cooperation with the Spellcaster agency. Our goal is to put up posters around Croatia that will not leave anyone indifferent. For us to be able to do that, we need your help. Every kuna is precious, contributes to the goal and helps the animals. We therefore invite everyone to spread the word and donate as much as possible. Let adoption be your greatest work of life

Legendary singer Zdenka Kovačiček, winner of the Porin Lifetime Achievement Award, is the face of the “Family to the seaside, dog to the street?!” campaign. In front of the lens of the photographer Domagoj Kunić, who also adopted a dog rescued from the earthquake, our music diva posed with dogs from the Dumovec shelter and the Noina Arka association. In the visuals with the message “Adoption – your greatest life’s work”, Zdenka invites everyone to choose to adopt instead of buy animals. See all visuals and photos from the presentation.

There will no longer be caged animal farming in the EU

170 European associations, including ours, are celebrating a historic victory! The European Commission has committed itself to abolish the practice of caged animal farming by 2027. A representative of our association joined the live broadcast of the press conference of the European Commission. We all cried with emotion. This is a huge victory for the animals and a big step in our fight to completely stop the exploitation and killing of animals. The Pobjeda Association collected signatures of Croatian citizens. Across the EU, as many as 1.4 million signatures have been collected in just one year, making this the first successful civic animal welfare initiative in the European Union.
