Celebrating the love for animals and plant-based food

On occasion of the World Vegetarian Day, October 1st, we announced the ‘Green October’, the month of celebrating the benefits of plant-based foods for animals, health and environment. We invited everyone interested to apply to our 30-day Veggie challenge and mark that way World Farm Animal Day (October 2nd) as well. That is the day which points out to horrible suffering and death of millions of contained animals. The ‘Green October’ will end on World Vegan Day on November 1st.

A million kuna to hunters for killing foxes and jackals?

Animal Protection Network sent a letter to the minister of agriculture, Mr Tomislav Tolušić, regarding the Ministry’s tender for co-financing the reduction of a number of predators in wildlife in 2018. The members of the Network and many citizens were badly surprised that the Ministry plans to finance hunters to reduce the number of foxes and jackals by killing them.

We condemned a manifestation called ‘Far Dormouse Night’

We sent a letter of complaint to the tourist board and the representatives of the city of Čabar on behalf of Animal Protection Network, warning them on unethicality and unlawfulness of their event “Fat Dormouse Night”, and asked for its cancellation. The event called citizens to hunt fat dormice (also called Glis glis) and even offered a special reward for ‘the fastest skinned fat dormouse’. Organizing such an event encourages poaching and breaking the law while using a continuation of tradition as an excuse for torturing and killing animals.

Infocenter connects people with animals

nfocenter connects people with animals
On Saturday, September 22nd 2018, our traditional action “Adoption is cool” was held at the Ban Jelačić Square in Zagreb. The theme of the event was the introduction of Infocenter, a service which connects people and animals in Zagreb. Lost and found cats and dogs can be connected with their old or new caretakers much easier. Anyone who finds or loses an animal in the area of the City of Zagreb, can report it on their website or contact them by phone number 01 2008 354. We also hope for a soon formation of a Unique informative centre for the whole of Croatia.

Animal Protection Network accompanied by dogs called for the implementation of the Act

dogs and members of Animal Protection Network asked for enforcement of Act
As a part of the campaign “Don’t turn a blind eye, castrate”, on September 15th 2018, we organized a public gathering aimed to draw attention to the necessity of implementing the Animal Protection Act. The Animal Protection Network representatives, accompanied by numerous citizens and dogs (adopted or those in search of adopters), called all individuals to spay/neuter and microchip their dogs and cats. They also called all the local communities who had not yet done so, to start microchipping control of all dogs in their area, and follow the positive example of more than 90 cities and municipalities, and administer a permanent sterilisation (spaying/neutering) as a way of breeding controlling dog and cat populations.

Burberry ditches fur, Prada is called to do the same

Burberry drops fur
During the Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris, the topic of animal fur became very relevant again. Fashion house Burberry announced that they will stop using fury in their collections, and London Fashion Week organizers declared they would be the first significant fur-free event during which none of the designers will use fur in collections. Meanwhile, consumers from all over the world called for Prada to ditch fur, too. In our neighbourhood, fur farming ban should be implemented in Serbia on January 1st, 2019.

Best seafood is the one without fish

Green dishes for the blue sea
As a part of our campaign, “Respect our sea”, we published a free cookbook with 14 recipes, called “Green dishes for the blue sea” (in Croatian). In it, you can find the recipes for tasty sea pate, sandwich with chickpea salad à la tuna or vegan sushi. The author of the recipes and photographs Ana Mihalić wishes to teach us how to easily adjust many recipes so they don’t include fish or other sea animals.
