A Prizoon remains a prizoon?

Zootvor
After a ban on the further operating of a zoo park in which animals were held in criminally bad conditions was finally achieved, a decision to open an educational center with domestic animals on Marjan in Split has been made recently. In an official letter to the City, we pointed out that it is equally bad to keep domestic animals locked up instead of wild animals. Furthermore, we warned that Split still hasn’t established a city shelter to solve the problem of homeless animals, while money is being spent on projects such as this one.

Camels in Durdevac

deve
In response to the information that the Durdevac Zoo is bringing in dromedary camels, we addressed the City’s Mayor, pointing out that Durdevac doesn’t satisfy even minimal conditions for keeping desert animals, nor can it do so even by satisfying all legal regulations. We also stated that it is bad for the City’s reputation and promotion to imprison animals and suggested investing the City’s money in building a shelter for abandoned animals, since Durdevac still hasn’t fulfilled that legal obligation.

Virtual Reality and Animal Rights

virtualna realnost
In collaboration with the first Croatian studio for virtual reality, we invited citizens to experience the world of virtual reality for free. This was a premiere usage of this technology in Croatia in order to speak up about animal rights. Viewers were presented with a challenge to watch the whole 10 minutes of footage to see if they can handle observing what animals endure daily. You can view the photo gallery from the event with reactions of citizens who were willing to participate. The video that was used can be viewed on YouTube.

You Can Say Everything to Your Dog… Except Goodbye

reci psu
We supported the campaign of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and Croatian Ministry of Agriculture named “You Can Say Everything to Your Dog… Except Goodbye”, which promotes responsible care for dogs, microchipping and vaccination, and also appeals to everyone not to abandon animals, but to provide them with life-long care. As part of the campaign, billboards and educational leaflets were printed as a useful information source for all who want or already have a dog.

The Animal Protection Act at a Public Hearing

zakon
A consultation with the interested public concerning the draft Proposal of the Animal Protection Act has been opened. View our corroborated suggestions for every individual legal regulation, and send your personal remarks for improving the Act until September 12, 2016, through the public hearing’s web page. Strong argumentation for saving the ban on fur farming was thankfully accepted, but the Ministry of Agriculture has still extended the phase-out period until January 1, 2018 for the chinchilla breeders who haven’t adopted the Act and put their production to a stop.

News Flash Summary

  • We called for participation in a public hearing concerning the making of a new Draft Proposal of the Waste Management Plan, and we pointed out that the Draft doesn’t include plans and guidelines for reducing the usage of plastic bags, which we find unacceptable and unsustainable. We also pointed out the importance of waste sorting and recycling.
  • We participated in a press conference in Rijeka on the subject of the City of Rijeka authorities’ implementation of legal provisions. The discussion included subjects such as the problems in the everyday functioning of local animal shelters, necessity of a better implementation of the Animal Protection Act in practice, and building a city animal shelter.

We would like to thank all volunteers, sponsors, patrons, exhibitors, and performers who worked hard on the preparations for the ZeGeVege Festival in order to make it unforgettable once more!

Also, we give our special thanks to all of you who enable our future work by paying your membership fees, donating, volunteering, or through other means.

We sincerely thank you for your support and for the love you feel for animals.
